Warisan: Look in the mirror, DAP

KOTA KINABALU: DAP should look in the mirror before accusing Warisan of being a “Trojan horse” aimed at splitting the Opposition vote, says Parti Warisan.

The party's secretary general Datuk Loretto Padua said that Warisan stuck to its principles within the opposition and was never part of the Sheraton move.

"In fact, Pakatan Harapan leaders - Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Guan Eng - refused to listen to Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal's advice to stay out of the MOU," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 3).

Padua said Shafie and Warisan remained true to his principles and integrity in order to ensure the credibility of Warisan.

He said even though the 2020 Sheraton move happened, Shafie and Warisan did not conspire with either Umno or Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Padua added that Shafie was even offered "a very important position" by the Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin who was the Prime Minister at the time.

"This stand by Shafie is quite different from Pakatan leaders such as Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Guan Eng who are willing to abandon the principle of electoral democracy to sign the MOU with the Ismail Sabri government,” said Padua.

He added that Warisan has repeatedly said that the MoU is not necessary because the opposition bloc can carry out their duties perfectly.

He said Sabah Pakatan assemblymen who were part of Shafie's Warisan state cabinet, were ready to sign the MOU with the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Barisan Nasional government who were responsible for the topple of the Warisan-Pakatan-Upko government in Sept 2020.

"Where is Pakatan's dignity and credibility and who is the real Trojan horse here," Padua said.

He was responding to Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Frankie Poon's statement that Warisan was a Trojan Horse that was to split the opposition votes.

Padua then said that when Lim was Pakatan's Finance Minister, he gave excuses and delayed the final implementation of the final four of 17 issues under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 - including Sabah's revenue return and higher oil royalties.

This also comes after Shafie accused DAP and PK of failing to deliver their Malaysia Agreement 1963 promises to the people of Sabah during Pakatan's two years in government and added that as such, it is pointless supporting their candidates.

"Wasn't Lim the one who announced to the people of Sabah during the Sabah DAP Congress that the 20% oil royalty promised by Pakatan and the granting of 40% tax return rights to Sabah could not be implemented,” said Padua.

He added that this is absolutely necessary for the Warisan-Pakatan government to eradicate poverty and backwardness in Sabah.

"In this regard, isn't it Shafie who bears the brunt of the anger of the people of Sabah because Pakatan's promises were not fulfilled even though Warisan is not a component in Pakatan.” said Padua.

“It is certain that Lim Guan Eng who has never understood and felt the hardships and poverty of the people of Sabah will pat and stroke Frankie Poom's head who is so quick to defend his boss,” added Padua.

He said Warisan will continue its struggle amid as all parties including Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan look at Warisan as their key opponent.

"In this regard, Warisan will not compromise on matters related to the credibility of this party and as the party's secretary general I ask Lim to answer the issues raised by Sabah leaders himself," he said.
