Melaka logs 88 child abuse cases

MELAKA: The state Social Welfare Department recorded 88 child abuse cases from January to August this year, and of that total, 37 involved sexual abuse

State women’s affairs, family development and welfare committee chairman Datuk Kalsom Nordin said physical, sexual and emotional abuse against children threatened basic rights of a child.

After the launch of the Eradicate Online Sexual Crimes Against Children Campaign here yesterday, she said online child pornography of children was on the rise.

“Information gathered by Royal Malaysia Police found 106,764 IP addresses registered in Malaysia have been sharing child pornography from 2017 until August this year,” she told Bernama.

She said parents must increase children’s awareness of the need to use social media wisely and safely.
