PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,360 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday (Oct 2), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,843,865 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 1,359 of Sunday's new Covid-19 infections were locally transmitted while there was one imported case.
Recoveries outpaced new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, with 2,271 recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,783,393 since the pandemic began.
There are currently 24,097 active Covid-19 infections in the country, with 23,075, or 95.8%, observing home quarantine.
Some 977 Covid-19 patients, or 4.1% of active cases, were still in hospitals throughout the country on Sunday, with 45, or 0.2% of active cases, seeking treatment at intensive care units (ICU).
Of those in ICU on Sunday, 17 are unventilated while 28 require ventilator support.
The CovidNow portal also reported that Malaysia's overall ICU utilisation rate stood at 59.2%, with Covid-19 patients accounting for 12.4% of overall ICU utilisation.
Meanwhile, the ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there was only one death due to Covid-19 in Terengganu on Sunday.
This brings the total number of deaths in Malaysia due to Covid-19 to 36,375 since the pandemic began.
