Video of secondary school student being bullied goes viral in Penang

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A video of a secondary school student being bullied and humiliated is going viral.

A parent sent the clip to mental health practitioner Priscilla Ho, who then sent it to The Star on Wednesday (Sept 28).

The incident was believed to have taken place in the toilet of a learning centre located in Bukit Mertajam.

Ho said the person who sent her the video got it from a WhatsApp group for parents.

Ho said the school should investigate the bullying claim.

She added that bullying cannot be condoned and the school would be remiss if it did not take action.

In the 2min, 50sec video, a boy in school uniform is seen being slapped and hit on the body, arm and face by several other boys.

One of the bullies at one point kicks the victim while the others mock him.

Loud laughter is also heard in the background.

When contacted, state Education Department director Abdul Rashid Abdul Samad and Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Cheng Shan said they have yet to receive any report on the incident.
