PM meets with UAE president on working visit to Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has called on United Arab Emirates President, Sheikh Mohammed Zayed Al-Nahyan as part of his itinerary for a working visit here.

The visit was aimed at enhancing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

This was the first meeting between Ismail Sabri and Sheikh Mohammed since the latter’s appointment as the new President of the UAE on May 14.

According to officials, leaders discussed ways to strengthen the 40 years of bilateral ties between Malaysia and the UAE and possible cooperation in new areas such as food security, digitalisation in education and renewable energy during their 30 minute meeting.

Ismail Sabri had arrived at the capital on Monday morning to undertake a four-day working visit to the UAE, the second since he became prime minister in Aug 2021.

The Prime Minister thanked Sheikh Mohammed and thanked him for the warm reception, affirming Malaysia’s keenness to cooperate with UAE in all economic, investment and other viral domains.

For 2021, Malaysia's total trade with UAE increased by 7.9% to RM22.29bil from RM20.65bil in 2020.
