Nine held for fighting in Bukit Tengah pub


BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have arrested nine people for allegedly fighting in a pub and bistro in Bukit Tengah.

A few of the male suspects involved in the incident were hurt after being attacked with a sharp object and were taken to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Cheng San said the nine suspects were locals aged between 17 and 32.

"Initial investigations show that the incident was due to a misunderstanding which turned into a scuffle between them.

"The suspects will be remanded for four days and the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting using a dangerous weapon.

If convicted, the accused could be jailed for five years or fined or both.
