Floods: More victims return home in Batu Pahat and Pontian


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims seeking shelter at the temporary flood relief centres in Batu Pahat and Pontian had slightly declined.

A Johor Civil Defence Force spokesman said as of 4pm Monday (Sept 26), there were 222 people from 59 families compared with 251 victims from 73 families at noon on Monday (Sept 26).

“The flood relief temporary centre at Sekolah Agama Kayu Ara Pasong in Pontian was closed at 1pm,’’ the spokesman said in a statement.

He said there were nine victims from one family from Kampung Sungai Mulih, Pekan Nanas who sought shelter at Pusat Kokurikulum Johor, Sungai Tempayan, Pontian.

The spokesman added that three centres in Batu Pahat district currently provided shelter to 213 victims from 56 families.

The victims in Batu Pahat district were from Kampung Seri Bengkal, Kampung Bintang Peserai, Kampung Dalam, Kampung Sungai Suloh, Kampung Sungai Suloh Besar and Kampung Patah Pedang.
