21-year-old man dies after falling into drain


PONTIAN: A man was found dead after falling into a drain at Jalan Parit Wak, Jalan Sanglang Laut, Ayer Baloi near here.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operation call centre (PGO) said it received an emergency call on the incident on Sunday (Sept 25) at 11.35pm.

Pontian Fire and Rescue station chief Azhar Abd Jalil said six firemen and Fire Rapid Tender (FRT) and Fire Rapid Vehicle (FRV) were deployed to the scene.

“The victim was unconscious when members of the public found him in a 2.13m-deep drain,’’ he said in a statement.

Azhar said the 21-year-old victim was pronounced dead on the spot by the paramedic team from the Health Ministry who arrived at the site.

He said the body has been handed over to police for further action.

Azhar said the operation led by senior officer II Julia Sani ended at 12.35am.
