Six youths who performed stunts on motorbikes on BKE arrested

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have arrested six youths who performed stunts on their motorcycles in an operation dubbed Ops Samseng Jalanan during the wee hours of Sunday (Sept 25) morning.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Cheng Shan said the motorcyclists aged between 18 and 20 years old were arrested at the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) at about 2.30am Sunday.

"The youth were spotted racing with each other and suspected of involvement in illegal street racing," he said in a statement on Sunday.

ACP Tan said the youths have been remanded for three days.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act.

ACP Tan said that during the operation, police also seized 30 motorcycles and issued 127 summonses to motorcyclists for various offences.

He advised the public, especially the youth, not to be involved in illegal street racing as it is against the law.

"This activity is also dangerous and can harm not only to themselves but other road users," he added.
