KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Cabinet has agreed in principle to limit the tenure of the Chief Minister to two terms, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“I have proposed this matter and the Sabah Cabinet has agreed.

“As such, if the people and assemblymen, both from the government and Opposition, agree to this, then we will bring this proposal to the upcoming state assembly meeting to amend the state Constitution.

“This proposal is another initiative undertaken by the GRS-Barisan Nasional state government,” said the Chief Minister during the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) tour of the Beluran district yesterday.

The event, held at Dataran Telupid, was also attended by other GRS component party leaders such as Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia and Agriculture and Food Industry Minister and Beluran MP Datuk Dr Ronald Kiandee.

Beluran is the fourth district to be visited by GRS in its statewide tour after Keningau, Kudat and Lahad Datu.

Hajiji, who is also GRS chairman, said the five-party coalition consisted of parties from various races and religions, adding that it was the perfect platform to unite leaders and people in Sabah in their pursuit of state rights.

Besides PBS and Usno, GRS also comprises the Sabah chapter of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Sabah STAR and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).

Hajiji said it was about time leaders from local Sabah parties came together under GRS to demand what was owed to the state by Putrajaya, as well as to look after the state’s interests.
