Lembaga Zakat Selangor continues to be proactive in helping asnaf

KAJANG: Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) will continue to be proactive in identifying eligible individuals and families to be registered under its ‘Skuad Jejak Kemiskinan’ (SJK) programme, said its chief executive officer, Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini.

He said that the programme introduced in 2011 have successfully identified the asnaf (people eligible to receive zakat or tithe) group by using the census method to determine the appropriate types of assistance.

"The SJK programme is held in collaboration with the LZS amil (zakat collectors), whose role is to channel information on individuals or families who have yet to be assisted by the LZS,” he said at the SJK programme in the Hulu Langat district, here today.

LZS Board of Trustees member Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Abdullah, was also present at the programme, which visited 45 families of the At-Taqwa Mosque, Bandar Seri Putra Mosque and the Sungai Kembong Hilir Mosque parishes.

Mohd Sabirin said that, in addition to zakat assistance, LZS also offers a career development programme to help asnaf who have lost their livelihood, by offering them employment opportunities through collaboration with companies that pay zakat to LZS.

Meanwhile, LZS, in a statement, announced that eligible families who registered as asnaf will be provided with assistance in the form of tuition and school supplies; Ramadan and Aidilfitri assistance, as well as other assistance, depending on the families’ current needs.

"Apart from that, our programme also identifies other needs for Muslims in the surrounding areas through the distribution of zakat money to asnaf gharimin and fisabilillah,” he said.

As of June this year, a total of 59,991 asnaf families have been assisted by LZS, with 8,887 of them in the Hulu Langat district. - Bernama
