Floods: Six relief centres opened in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Six flood relief centres have opened in Johor to shelter 128 victims of flash floods.

According to the district disaster management committees, two flood relief centres each in Johor Baru, Pontian and Batu Pahat started operating on Sunday (Sept 25) morning.

This followed downpours in parts of the state from 6.30am.

In Pontian, 54 victims from 15 families are seeking shelter at the Sekolah Agama Kayu Ara Pasong flood relief centre while a family of three from Kampung Sungai Mulih in Pekan Nanas have been sent to Pusat Kokurikulum Johor in Sungai Tempayan.

Those affected are from Kampung Parit Parit Sapran, Kampung Parit Haji Omar, Kampung Kayu Ara Pasong, Kampung Parit Haji Siraj, Parit Labis and Kampung Parit Abdul Rahman.

In Batu Pahat, 29 victims from 11 families in Kampung Seri Bengkal are seeking shelter at Sekolah Agama Seri Bengkal while 21 people from six families in Kampung Bintang Peserai are currently putting up at SK Bintang Peserai.

Meanwhile in Johor Baru, 17 residents of Taman Dato Syed Mohd Idrus and Kampung Baru Gelang Pahat have moved to Dewanraya Gelang Patah.

Four victims from Kampung Mohd Amin in Johor Baru have been relocated to SK Nong Chik.

The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy thunderstorms in most parts of Johor such as Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru.
