Sandakan Municipal Council urged to discuss abandoned buildings issue with Sabah AG

SANDAKAN: Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun has urged the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) to discuss with the Sabah Attorney General over possible action that can be taken against the owners of abandoned buildings here.

He said the irresponsible actions of the owners had caused various problems for other residents, and threatened their safety and health.

"I have asked them (MPS) to refer to certain legal provisions with the Sabah AG who can guide them to take appropriate action, including legal action against owners who refuse to cooperate in maintaining their buildings.

"In fact, I also understand that there are buildings that have been converted to swiftlet houses which are not allowed in townships and residential areas," he told reporters after meeting MPS officials and members as well as local representatives and community leaders on Monday (Sept 19).

He said MPS should also focus on improving its services to achieve its goal of becoming a city council, and that his ministry would help in the process. - Bernama
