Two killed in separate accidents in Sabah


KOTA KINABALU: Two people were killed in separate accidents early Sunday (Sept 18).

In the first accident, a 41-year-old pedestrian died after he was hit by a vehicle at around 1.20am, near a restaurant in Sinsuran, Kota Kinabalu.

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Zaidi Abdullah said the victim was first discovered by a motorcyclist who was riding past the area.

He saw that the bloodied man was unconscious when he called the police.

The victim was pronounced dead by medical officials at the scene, ACP Zaidi added.

“The victim sustained severe head injuries,” he said.

He said the victim was believed to have tried crossing the road when he was hit by a vehicle.

He said there were street lights at the stretch of road where the accident occurred while it was also drizzling during the incident.

ACP Zaidi called on witnesses to the mishap to come forward and facilitate investigations.

In Tawau district, a 27-year-old man succumbed to his injuries from a mishap near Kg Bukit Jalan Merotai at about 5am.

The victim, identified as Mohd Ridwan Baharuddin, was believed to have lost control of his vehicle before skidding off the road and crashing into a road divider.

The vehicle somehow crashed past the road divider and the victim was pinned inside his heavily damaged car following the accident.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said firemen were alerted about the accident at 5.11am.

“Our team responded and they had to use rescue tools to extricate the victim,” he said.

Medical officials pronounced Ridwan dead on the scene, he said.

Misran said the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action while firemen wrapped up their operations at 5.50am.
