KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Adnan Yaakob says he will remember Tun S. Samy Vellu as "a colourful character and a sharp dresser".
The former Pahang mentri besar, who served during the same period as Samy and now retired from active politics, said that Samy never minced his words.
"Samy Vellu was of a very colourful character. He was frank and witty.
"His dressing was also top of its own, always looking dashing and smart. My condolences to his family," said Adnan when contacted.
Samy Vellu passed away at about 7am Thursday (Sept 15) at his home in Taman Kaya here at the age of 86.
He had served as the Works Minister from 1979 to 1989 and from 1995 to 2008. He was the MP for Sungai Siput in Perak from 1974 to 2008.
As one of the longest-serving members of the Cabinet, Samy Vellu had served under three prime ministers, namely Tun Hussein Onn, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, from 1978 to 2008.
