PAS to contest eight to 15 seats in Selangor

KLANG: Selangor PAS is looking at contesting between eight to 15 seats in the 15 General Election upcoming general election, says its secretary Roslan Shahir.

He said this was based on the number of seats the party had won in the 2008 and 2013 general elections respectively.

“Winning 15 seats in 2013 was the party’s best achievement in the state and will be looking at these seats.

“Who our opponents would be would depend on which party would declare as being PAS friendly.

“This is simply because we prefer a one-to-one fight instead of a multiple-cornered fight,” he said when contacted on Wednesday (Sept 14).

Roslan added that PAS was willing to work with any party except those in Pakatan Harapan.

“So, parties that are friendly with Pakatan can discount our support for them,’’ he added.

According to Roslan, PAS had a better standing in Selangor given that it was well organised and enjoyed a broader support.

He said PAS had enjoyed 20 to 22% of votes in the 35 out of Selangor’s 56 state seats that had been identified as Malay seats.

“So, if any of the parties want to tap into our votes, they need to be PAS friendly,’’ he said.

Currently Selangor PAS’s quagmire was that they are on friendly terms with both Umno and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia which are feuding.

Roslan said Selangor PAS was studying the situation to see how they could work around the issue and maintain good ties with both Bersatu and Umno.

PAS was still holding on to the Muafakat Nasional agreement which brought Umno and the party together after the 2018 polls.

However, Umno’s contention is that PAS gave-up on the spirit of Muafakat Nasional when it joined Perikatan Nasional.
