Perak cops: Helicopter crash probe under way


IPOH: Police have begun their probe of the recent helicopter crash in Bidor.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the wreckage would be sent to the owner after the investigation is completed.

“The post-mortem of the deceased, Tsz Kin Richard Chan, has been conducted at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun around 9am today (Tuesday).

“We were told that his wife is still abroad and will arrive soon,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 13).

On Monday (Sept 12), a search and rescue team arrived at the helicopter wreckage less than 24 hours after the crash was reported at Chikus Forest Reserve in Bidor.

They found 58-year-old Tsz in the cockpit.

During a press conference at Bidor police station on Monday, Comm Mohd Yusri said that based on initial investigations, police did not find any traces of an explosion and had secured the area to keep trespassers out.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) would conduct further checks there, he added.

On Sunday (Sept 11), the helicopter, with a single pilot on board, was said to have lost contact with the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre at 12.16pm.

The aircraft took off from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 11.37am for a private flight and was scheduled to land at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport here at 12.37pm.

The helicopter is a Eurocopter EC120B with registration marking N409HH operated by Heli Outpost Sdn Bhd.
