Lorry driver killed while checking tyre in Kulai

KULAI: A 39-year-old lorry driver has been killed after he was run over by a motorcycle at KM21.8 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said that the 54-year-old motorcyclist also suffered serious injuries and is currently being treated at Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital.

"The incident occurred at about 1.10pm on Saturday (Sept 10). Investigations revealed that the lorry driver had stopped his vehicle at the emergency lane to check a tyre in his vehicle.

"He, however, was hit by an incoming motorcycle from behind," Supt Tok said in a statement.

The victim suffered serious injuries to the head and was pronounced dead at the location.

The body was taken to the same hospital for a post-mortem, he said.

"As for the motorcycle rider, he had suffered serious injuries to his body and head," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
