One killed, another injured after homemade bomb explodes in Gerik


IPOH: A man was killed and another was seriously injured after a homemade bomb exploded at the Lata Kekabu Recreation Centre in Lenggong, Gerik.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the deceased is Amiruddin Khairudin, 44, while the injured man was identified as Azlan Ali, 40.

"Amiruddin's body has been sent to the Gerik Hospital for a post-mortem. The injured man was sent to the Taiping Hospital for further treatment," he said in a statement on Monday night. (Sept5)

Comm Mohd Yusri said the Gerik police received a report on the incident at about 3.10pm.

"A team was dispatched to the location to investigate, where they found the victims.

"We advise the people not to be involved in illegal activities like using explosives to catch fish and abusing a recreational area as a location for fishing," he said.

He added that thecase will be investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
