Ongoing PAS muktamar significant following two-year break, upcoming GE15, says Takiyuddin

ALOR SETAR: The ongoing 68th PAS muktamar is the last before 15th General Election (GE15) and is important for delegates to provide the best ideas and suggestions on how to prepare for the impending polls, says Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan (pic).

"After two years of pandemic, this is the first physical muktamar organised by PAS.

"This is also the last muktamar before GE15, which has been described by political analysts as the 'father of all elections'," the PAS secretary-general said during his welcome speech at Kedah PAS Complex here on Saturday (Sept 3).

PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, in his policy speech, said the party would not "close one eye to corruption, power grab, power abuse and money politics."

"We will not keep quiet on such things so as not to offend others – this is the wrong concept of cooperation and it is sinful," he said.

"PAS will reject whoever takes this narrow approach which deviates from the teachings and principles of the Quran," said Abdul Hadi.

He said the mandate was given to PAS' Syura council and central committee to scrutinise and decide on the policies and strategies to face GE15 and any eventualities after that.

"This is to ensure Islam continues to lead, including in the decision on the seats and candidates.

"The most critical factor for PAS for GE15 is how its election machinery can control the habits of how the youth vote, especially first-time voters who are said to be disinterested in politics.

Also present during the muktamar was Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Some 1,300 delegates are expected to attend the assembly held at Kedah PAS Complex here On Saturday and Sunday (Sept 4).
