PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has resigned from her post as special adviser to the Prime Minister.
Confirming this, the Prime Minister’s Office said that Azalina had submitted a letter dated Aug 29 to resign from her position as special adviser on law and human rights to the Prime Minister.

"The Prime Minister has accepted the resignation with a month’s notice as stated in the letter.
"The notice is to allow matters pertaining to her staff to be settled," said the PMO on Thursday (Sept 1).
The PMO said throughout the one-month notice period, Azalina will no longer be serving at the office.
"She has been given leave beginning Sept 1 until the end of the notice period which is at the end of the month.
"Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob would like to extend his appreciation to Azalina for her service during her tenure as his advisor," it said.

Media reported that Azalina, who is also Pengerang MP, had resigned from her post as special advisor to the Prime Minister.
However, in a Facebook post, she maintained that she had not stepped down from her position as the Prime Minister’s special adviser.
She was appointed to the post in October last year.
Azalina, who is also an Umno supreme council member, had recently questioned why the current Attorney General was not government-friendly.
She had claimed that in other parts of the world, a prime minister would usually appoint "his own person" to be the AG.
Azalina, during Umno's special briefing on Aug 27, had also questioned why the Federal Court rejected Datuk Seri Najib Tum Razak’s bid to postpone proceedings after the former prime minister changed his team of lawyers.
The Federal Court had subsequently upheld Najib’s conviction, as well as his 12-year jail sentence and RM210mil for misappropriating RM42mil of SRC International funds.
