Senior citizen dies of heart attack on Gunung Pulai hike


KULAI: A 62-year-old man died of a heart attack after going for a hike at Gunung Pulai, here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said that the man had hiked for about 3.3km before suffering from breathing difficulties and fainted.

"Investigations revealed that the victim had a heart condition and had suffered from heart attacks before," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Aug 31).

Kulai Fire and Rescue Department operation commander senior officer Asmiza Zaini said that the victim had fainted on top of the hill and was brought down by other members of the public.

"We received a distress call at 10.11am and deployed seven personnel to the location.

"The victim is identified as Chua Kok Wah and was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical team," he said.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a 30-year-old man from Myanmar is believed to have drowned while catching fish at a river near KM6.6 Jalan Ismail Sultan-Gelang Patah.

Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Department operation commander senior officer Mohd Khairi Zainudin said that the department received a call at 3pm and deployed seven personnel to the location with one fire truck.

"The operation to locate the victim is still ongoing," he said.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD ACP Rahmat Ariffin has confirmed that he received a police report over the matter.
