Dress rehearsal for National Day celebrations in Penang goes smoothly


GEORGE TOWN: The full dress rehearsal for the state-level 65th National Day celebrations went smoothly on Monday (Aug 29).

Penang speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said the full rehearsal for the celebration started at about 8.30am.

"The parade and full rehearsal went well," he said briefly to The Star.

Meanwhile, George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said a total of 81 contingents involving 4,800 personnel and 27 vehicle contingents involving 665 vehicles with 780 personnel will be involved in the National Day parade.

"A total of 276 personnel including 170 police will be on duty on Aug 31," he said during a press conference at George Town police headquarters on Sunday (Aug 28).

ACP Soffian advised the public to plan their journey to avoid being trapped in traffic jams.

About 5,000 people are expected to attend the National Day celebration on Aug 31.
