GE15: Work with us to ensure BN doesn't win, Radzi urges Opposition

PETALING JAYA: The Opposition should be open to joining hands with Perikatan Nasional in the 15th General Elections (GE15), says Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin.

He said that suggestions to work with the Opposition were a rational move for all parties that saw Barisan Nasional as the "common enemy".

“These parties should be open to various strategies, including coming together to ensure one-on-one fights during GE15,” the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia vice-president said.

“Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also mentioned on Saturday (Aug 27) that politics was dynamic and anything could happen,” he was quoted as saying by Bersatu’s official news organ on Sunday (Aug 28).

“In this context, the most important thing is that Barisan does not return to power after GE15,” he added.

Bersatu is part of the Perikatan coalition alongside component parties including PAS, Gerakan, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah STAR) and the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).

Radzi’s comments come following Muhyiddin's acknowledged that entering the elections with multi-cornered fights might make it difficult to defeat Barisan, and said the coalition is open to collaborations.

“If there are certain parties that want to discuss with us, we are open. If another party has a similar aim as us, then we need to discuss how to avoid multi-cornered fights that could affect our chances,” Muhyiddin told a press conference after Perikatan's convention on Saturday.

However, he was non-committal when asked if collaborating with Barisan was an impossibility.

“It’s hard to say. There are so many ifs. I would not rule it out nor welcome it,” Muhyiddin said.
