Two nabbed for robbery, impersonating police in Semporna

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were nabbed for allegedly robbing a victim while impersonating as policemen in Semporna district.

The two suspects, both aged 48, had arrived at the victim’s quarters in Mg Menteritip Pegagau, at 5.11pm on Aug 21, and told him that they were policemen.

“They held out a pair of handcuffs to prove their point. They later instructed the victim to get out of the house while they entered to raid it,” said Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Farhan Lee in a statement on Friday (Aug 26).

The two suspects were believed to have taken RM2,500 in cash and five units of cellphones from the worker’s quarters.

He said the victim was unharmed.

The victim then lodged a police report, said Supt Farhan.

He said based on the information given and investigations launched, police arrested the two suspects from their homes at Batu 2, Jalan Semporna-Tawau at around 12.30pm on Aug 24.

“A vehicle that was believed used during the robbery was confiscated along with a pair of handcuffs, a motorcycle and three handphones,” he said.

“The suspects tested positive for drugs,” said Supt Farhan.

The suspects have been remanded for seven days to help in investigations.

He urged local communities to continue being the eyes and ears of the police and to continue working together with the authorities to prevent crime in the district.
