Floods: Several areas in Kulai, Johor Baru hit

JOHOR BARU: Several areas in the Kulai and Johor Baru were immersed with water for several hours following a heavy downpour since around 1pm.

According to the Johor Civil Defence Force (APM), affected areas included Kampung Maju Jaya, Tebrau in Johor Baru as well as Taman Aman and Kampung Jaya Sepakat in Kulai.

"The cause of the flood in Tebrau was due to continuous heavy rain for about two hours and clogged drains.

"Meanwhile, in Kulai, the two hours downpour, coupled with the rising water level of the river had caused the flash floods," it said in a statement here on Saturday (Aug 20).

It added that however, the situation was still under control and no temporary relief centre had been opened as of press time.

The APM also noted that the water level in Kulai had also started to recede.

Meanwhile, the fire and rescue department reported that the water level at Kampung Laut in Skudai also went up due to the heavy rain.

"The water level went up to about two metres and the relocation operation is still ongoing with the assistance of the village chief.

"We are also monitoring the water level at Taman Aman and Kampung Jaya Sepakat and so far the situation is still under control," it said in a statement here.
