All three killed in Sandakan house fire were from same family

KOTA KINABALU: Police have identified all three people killed in a Friday (Aug 19) night fire at a double-storey terrace house in Sandakan as members of the same family.

The dead man was identified as Chin Seong Vui, 54, and the two women were his 52-year-old wife Lim Seong Chin and Chin's 84-year-old mother Lee Kiu Moi.

Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said that all three bodies which were found in the living hall of the house by firemen have been sent for post-mortem at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

Earlier on Saturday (Aug 20), he said a full investigation was underway on the fire at the house and added that all three were residents in the house.

Firemen found the three charred bodies - a man and two women - in the living room of the house at Taman Rajawali after they put out the fire at about 11pm on Friday (Aug 20).

ACP Abdul Fuad said that police have classified the case as sudden death.

A state Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman said they received a distress call at 10.35pm on Friday after the fire started at about 10.10pm.

Firemen took about 20 mins to bring the fire under control and stopped it from spreading to the adjacent houses.

A department team is also investigating the cause of the fire and the estimated losses sustained.
