Shah Alam cops investigating theft from mosque donation box

SHAH ALAM: A police investigation has been opened after CCTV footage showed a man stealing from a mosque here.

In a statement Friday (Aug 19), Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said that a report on the theft at Masjid Nahdhah in Seksyen 18 was made on Aug 18.

"The complainant, a member of the mosque committee, checked the CCTV footage on Aug 18 and saw a man stealing money from the donation box by using a metal ruler. The suspect was seen doing so from 4.18am to 4.30am.

"No security guards were posted and the mosque was locked at the time. Four of the eight cameras in the mosque caught the thief entering the compound and it is believed he had jumped over a partition wall at the back of the building," he said, adding that the extent of the loss has yet to be ascertained.

ACP Mohd Iqbal said that efforts are underway to trace the suspect.
