Lorry driver dies after crashing into tree near JB


JOHOR BARU: A lorry driver died on the spot after the vehicle he was driving skidded and crashed into a tree at KM10.9 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near here.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call about the incident at 4.25pm on Friday (Aug 19).

Kempas fire station chief Mohd Ridzuan Malik Rivan said 10 firemen from the Kempas and Tebrau stations were deployed to the scene.

He said the 54-year-old victim was driving a two-tonne lorry heading towards the north bound of the NSE when the incident took place.

"He was not trapped in the driver’s seat and firefighters used a stretcher to remove the body," he said.

Mohd Ridzuan said the victim was pronounced dead by the paramedic team at the scene.

He said the body was handed over to police for further action and the operation led by senior officer II Mohd Aidil Misnan ended at 5.24pm.
