Man rams into uncle, aunt in Jasin freak accident

MELAKA: A 32-year-old driver knocked into his uncle and aunt in a freak accident at Jalan Bandar in Jasin here.

Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Mispani Hamdan said the elderly couple was walking along the street at about 11.30am on Tuesday (Aug 16), when an ongoing car hit them, causing them to be tossed into the air.

"The incident was captured by CCTV from a nearby shop," he said.

DSP Mispani said the driver of the car was heading towards the Jasin market while the couple was walking towards a row of shophouses in the opposite direction.

He said that both the victims, aged 64, sustained injuries on their hands and legs.

However, the couple are in stable condition after receiving treatment at Jasin Hospital.

DSP Mispani said the driver was shocked that he had unintentionally mowed down his own relatives when he alighted his car to help the victims.

He said the incident is now being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

It is not immediately known whether the driver was using his mobile phone that had caused him to lose focus while driving along the road.
