ISKANDAR PUTERI: A Barisan Nasional victory in the 15th General Election (GE15) will ensure continuous economic spillover to Johor, says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Machap assemblyman, who is also an Umno supreme council member, said Barisan grassroots leaders, including those appointed as councillors under 16 local councils in the state, must play a proactive role to help ensure victory for the party in GE15.
“Leaders at the grassroots level should perform the duties entrusted to them by helping the people in their respective areas.
“Victory for Barisan in the upcoming election will guarantee economic spillover to Johor if the federal and state governments come from the same party,” he added.
Onn Hafiz said this in his speech before handing out appointment letters to all councillors and local council chief whips at Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) here on Monday (Aug 15).
He added that following Barisan’s major victory in the Johor state election held earlier this year, the Federal Government has provided many allocations for the state's development.
In the Johor state election, Barisan won 40 seats while Pakatan Harapan and Muda won 13 seats and Perikatan Nasional won three seats.
“Recently, National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Halimah Sadique channelled RM11mil while Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba allocated RM10mil to the state government.
“This is why all of us must work hard to make sure Barisan’s victory in GE15 will be materialised as the state government still has a long way to go (in terms of development),” he said.
He added this was due to the fact that Johor has “wasted” four years where two of those periods were under Pakatan’s reign and another two years lost because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Therefore, grassroots leaders from all component parties have to work hard in their respective areas. God willing, in the next general election, Barisan will not only win, but will win with an impressive majority," he said.
