Unwell Russian tanker captain receives help from MMEA in Labuan


The Russian man given preliminary treatment before he was taken to the hospital.

KOTA KINABALU: A tanker vessel captain who suffered nausea and low blood pressure on board the ship received emergency assistance from maritime officials just after midnight on Tuesday (Aug 9).

The 49-year-old Russian man, who was on Labuan waters, was transferred to the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) boat at around 12.50am, after he was given preliminary treatment.

MMEA director for Labuan, Captain Nudin Jusoh, said they received a call from the tanker - ARISTOKLIS - and had sent a team to respond.

“Our KILAT 40 boat was dispatched with a team,” he said in a statement.

The patient was taken to the Labuan Jetty where medical officials were already waiting, he said.

It is learnt that the patient is now stable.

Nudin said the MMEA can be contacted via the 999 emergency number, hotline 03-89434001, the Labuan MMEA operations center at 087-427999 or WhatsApp at 013- 2558539 in any cases of emergency at sea.
