Johor cops arrest man for crashing into seven cars under influence of alcohol

KULAI: Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for crashing into seven cars while under the influence of alcohol in Saleng here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said that police received a public complaint about a four-wheel drive vehicle being driven in a dangerous manner that had caused a road accident involving several vehicles.

“A team of mobile patrol vehicles (MPV) received instruction from the Kulai police district headquarters to make their way to a petrol station in Saleng, following the information at around 7.30pm on Monday (Aug 8).

“The suspect had earlier crashed the four-wheel drive into five cars near Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) along Jalan Persiaran Indahpura before driving to Second Link Highway and entering the Johor Baru-Air Hitam highway,” he said here on Tuesday (Aug 9).

Supt Tok added that the suspect then hit the back of two more cars along the highway before stopping at the roadside.

“However, the suspect then stole a car, which is one of the cars he hit, and drove it towards Saleng.

“My men arrested the suspect at the petrol station before bringing him back for questioning,” he said, adding that no one was injured during the incident.

Supt Tok said that checks on the suspect found him to be intoxicated due to alcohol while testing negative for drugs.

He added that the suspect would be remanded for three days until Thursday (Aug 11) to help with the investigations under Section 427 of the Penal Code, Section 379A of the same Act, Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 45A of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amended 2020).
