GE15 to cost RM1bil, says EC chairman

PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) is fully ready for the 15th General Election which is estimated to cost RM1bil, says its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh.

"We are ready to hold GE15 anytime when Parliament is dissolved, with 21.1 million voters eligible to vote. The approximately RM1bil consists of all aspects of budget management including logistics, information and communications technology, hardware and system requirements, human resources management as well as training for officers," Utusan Malaysia quoted Abdul Ghani as saying.

Preparations, said Ghani, include identifying polling stations and candidate nomination centres with election officials nationwide having undergone various training and intensive courses on their respective roles and duties.

"After Undi18 and automatic voter registration came into effect in December last year, a total of 5,718,760 voters have been registered," added Abdul Ghani.
