Slashed Sg Petani security guard succumbs to injuries, say cops

SUNGAI PETANI: A security guard who was injured after being slashed by a group of men at a construction site at Bukit Banyan here on Thursday (Aug 4) has passed away.

Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Zaidy Che Hassan said 58-year-old Ismail Ahmad succumbed to injuries while being treated at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital on Sunday (Aug 7).

On Aug 4, two suspects, aged 41 and 35, were detained following a report by a 58-year-old victim that he was attacked by three assailants wielding machetes for scolding one of the assailants for riding motorcycles dangerously at a construction site.

The incident has led to speculation and fake news being spread on social media where a viral post on the "Ayahanda-Ayahanda Sungai Petani" Facebook page created panic among the local community in Sungai Petani.

Police, however, have denied that the incident has led to tension between the races in the nearby area.
