PETALING JAYA: People should respect the choice of Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz to join Barisan Nasional, says Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (pic).

The Housing and Local Government Minister said it was strange how groups that were supposedly democratic had gone overboard in bombarding the newly-minted Selangor Barisan treasurer with criticism, with some even questioning his ethics.

“As a successful banker, his political intuition is surely factual and concrete, which has led him to choose Umno and Barisan.

“It is also naive of those who failed to notice his closeness with us (Umno and Barisan) all this while,” he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 5).

He added that Tengku Zafrul was surely confident that this opportunity would enable him to better serve both the country and its people.

“The presence of professionals such as Tengku Zafrul with Umno and Barisan will also strengthen us.

“This is what raises concern among certain parties,” he said.

On July 31, the announcement of Tengku Zafrul as Selangor Barisan treasurer put to rest months-long speculation about the Senator’s plans to go into politics.

His appointment was announced by state Barisan chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar at the Selangor Barisan Convention 2022.

Noh added that Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos, who was previously the state Barisan treasurer, had been made communications chief.
