Sabah DAP's Vivian Wong says Warisan an ‘opportunist’ in seeking to be kingmaker

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP is taking to task its one time political ally Parti Warisan for distributing "malicious" leaflets accusing the national opposition party of selling out by signing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the government.

DAP's Sandakan MP Vivian Wong accused Warisan of distributing leaflets in Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and other districts that portrayed DAP's actions were not aligned to Warisan’s stand to remain an opposition.

She said such leaflets calling for the public to support Warisan to become the “kingmaker” was simply a disguise to allow Warisan to be an opportunistic “third force” in the Malaysian political scenario.

"They (Warisan) can choose to align with whoever wins the election later, be it Barisan Nasional led by Umno or any other party,” she said, in a statement here on Thursday (Aug 4).

"This may explain why Warisan has been so relentlessly attacking DAP and Pakatan Harapan instead of the current ruling Barisan and Perikatan Nasional, even though Warisan called themselves an opposition party.”

Towards this end, she urged Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to clarify if such continuous baseless and unfounded attacks on DAP and Pakatan were sanctioned and adopted by his party.

Wong said Warisan stayed out of the MOU signed between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob last year and severed ties with Pakatan, its one time ally that captured the Sabah government from Barisan after the 2018 general election.

She reiterated the party's stand in signing the bipartisan MOU with the government was to ensure political stability in Malaysia through a bipartisan agreement, while delaying the dissolution of Parliament until after the Covid-19 situation improves.
