IPOH: A 30-year-old nurse has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court in Sungai Siput with murdering her eight-month-old baby boy.

T. Rebekal nodded after the charge was read out to her before magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan yesterday.

She was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with committing the murder at a house in Kampung Muhibbah, Sungai Siput, about 30km from here, around 6pm on July 24.

The offence carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

No plea was recorded.

It was reported that the baby, who was found unconscious, was pronounced dead at Hospital Sungai Siput.

A post-mortem conducted on the baby found multiple injuries on the body, believed to have been caused by blunt objects.

The accused had divorced about six months ago and the baby was her only child.

She was represented by lawyer K. Nahtan while deputy public prosecutor RS Vitthiyeswary prosecuted.

Magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan set Oct 3 for mention.
