SHAH ALAM: With his appointment as Selangor Barisan Nasional treasurer, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz has officially begun his foray into the world of politics.

The announcement of Tengku Zafrul's appointment by Barisan Selangor chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar has put to rest months-old speculations about the Senator's plans to join politics.

Noh said that Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos, who was previously the Selangor Barisan treasurer, had been made Selangor Barisan communications chief.

"I have appointed Tengku Zafrul as th new treasurer for Barisan Selangor," said Noh in his speech at the closing ceremony of the Selangor Barisan Convention 2022 at the Setia City Convention Centre here on Sunday (July 31).

Although Tengku Zafrul was a known Umno member, he was not active in politics.

The former banker now looks set to contest in Selangor as a Barisan candidate in the 15th general election (GE15), which was expected to be called soon.

Earlier, Tengku Zafrul, who was clad in the signature dark blue Barisan shirt, received a warm welcome from delegates of the Selangor Barisan Convention 2022 at Setia City Convention Centre here on Sunday (July 31).

On July 18, Jamal said he was willing to hand over his post as Selangor Barisan treasurer to Tengku Zafrul.
