IPOH: A preacher has been remanded for five days for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl on Thursday (July 28).

Magistrate Noor Azreen Liana Mohd Darus granted the remand starting from July 28 until August 1.

It is believed that the suspect raped the victim in Ipoh in January.

The suspect was arrested in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (July 27) before being brought to the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court today.

The case was investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017.

The preacher was reportedly arrested on July 18 at the Kuala Selangor police headquarters and was remanded until July 23 after he allegedly raped the same victim in Kuala Lumpur.

On July 20, Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the preacher was also investigated in Perak after an investigation paper was opened.

It was reported that four police reports were lodged over the case, two in Selangor and one each in Kuala Lumpur and Perak.
