Leaders who take in party hoppers must be unseated, says Baling MP

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (BN-Baling) has proposed that the anti-party hopping Bill include a provision that warrants the top guns of political parties that accept party hoppers to vacate their seats.

“I ask that the president, deputy president, vice-presidents or the top leadership who decide to accept party hoppers also be made to vacate their seats.

“It does not matter if it is an MP or a state assemblyman they accept into their party,” he said when debating the Bill at the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (July 28)l.

Abdul Azeez said party hopping was a betrayal of the people's mandate.

“The people are the ones suffering. They must know who are the traitors who betrayed their party and tainted constitutional democracy.

“Members of a government formed on the basis of 'betrayal' will end up betraying one another, which eventually leads to political instability,” he said.

Abdul Azeez also blamed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s (Pejuang-Langkawi) resignation for leading to the downfall of Pakatan Harapan.

The Bill is expected to be tabled for the third reading on Thursday (July 28).
