IPOH: The scene outside the High Court here was one of contrast after the judge delivered the guilty verdict in former Perak exco member Paul Yong’s rape trial.
On the part of the Indonesian Embassy’s first secretary, Junjungan Sigalingging, he said the embassy was satisfied with the decision, adding that it showed the legal system was able to bring justice.
“We had high expectations that the trial could bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Today, we are grateful to God, and we highly appreciate the judge who has shown wisdom and fairness in presiding over the case,” he said.
But it was a different scene for Yong’s supporters.
They had seemed stoic at the beginning but became dejected after Justice Abdul Wahab Mohamed delivered the verdict and sentence.
Yong arrived at about 9.15am with his wife Too Choon Looi and Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam.
