Boyfriend of mother who allegedly abused eight-month-old baby arrested

LUMUT: The boyfriend of the mother who allegedly abused her eight-month-old baby has been arrested by the police.

Perak police chief comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the boyfriend was arrested on the same day as the mother on Monday (July 25).

“The boyfriend is a policeman working outside of Perak and has been suspended from duty. He is currently under remand for seven days starting on July 26,” he told reporters after officiating the Pulau Pangkor police station here on Wednesday (July 27).

On July 25, an eight-month-old baby boy here died after being allegedly abused. He was taken to the hospital by his mother after being found unconscious in Sungai Siput.

The initial examination found that there were many injuries on the baby's body, and the results of the post-mortem found that the baby's injuries were caused by a blunt object.

The 30-year-old mother worked as a freelance nurse and went through a divorce six months ago.

Separately, comm Mior Faridalathrash said the police will call up those involved with submitting a memorandum to Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad at the state secretariat building on July 18.

“The reason we called them is because there was a gathering held without permit.

“We have called the bus driver who brought the Orang Asli and will soon call the Tok Batin and the organiser. They were supposed to apply for a permit at least five days before the event so that our personnel can assist them,” he said.

On July 18, about 1,000 Orang Asli handed a memorandum to Saarani regarding the ongoing logging at Bukit Tapah forest reserve. The memorandum was accepted by Saarani’s special officer Azlan Aminuddin.
