KAJANG: A four-year-old girl was rescued after a video emerged, apparently showing her being abused.
She was allegedly beaten by a couple using a hanger and broom, and was even burnt with a lighter, said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan.
A couple, believed to have fostered the child, have been arrested.
ACP Mohd Zaid said investigations revealed that the girl had vomited after she was forced fed with rice which she had refused to eat earlier.
“The girl is said to be a hyperactive child. Checks revealed that the victim is at least four years old and an Indonesian.
“She did not have any birth record or identification record,” he added.
ACP Mohd Zaid said the girl was handed over to the couple by her birth mother in April because she was not able to take care of her.
In a statement yesterday, ACP Mohd Zaid said police were alerted about the case after a report was lodged at 12.14am yesterday.
“The complainant, a 20-year-old man, alleged that the incident occurred four days earlier at a housing area in Beranang here.
A 28-year-old Malaysian woman and a Singaporean man were arrested at their house in Beranang.
“Both suspects have been remanded for seven days to help with the investigation,” ACP Mohd Zaid said, adding that the girl was taken to Kajang Hospital where doctors confirmed she suffered multiple injuries to various parts of her body.
He said the case has been classified as exposing a child in a manner likely to cause physical or emotional injury as stated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act.
