Protesters gather outside mall, chanting slogans against price hikes

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of protesters havegathered outside the Sogo Shopping Complex on Saturday (July 23) afternoon and are marching towards Dataran Merdeka.

People in the group, who gathered at around 2pm, are chanting slogans against price hikes and demanding ministers take a pay cut.

Among the activists and politicians spotted at the demonstration are Mandeep Singh, Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, and Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amirah Aisya Abdul Aziz.

Police have yet to receive any notice from the organisers of the proposed #Turun demonstration.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya had said police were aware of the proposed gathering, planned to be held in front of the Sogo shopping complex here on Saturday afternoon.

In a statement, the #Turun committee said the goal of the protest was to ensure that the government does not ignore the price hike issue.

They are also demanding that ministers take a pay cut as well as for the government to continue with subsidies, control the prices of goods, and solve food security issues.
