Furada cheating case suspects handed over to Johor police

KUALA LUMPUR: Five suspects linked to the Furada visa cheating case have been handed over to Johor police, say police.

City police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim, in a statement on Wednesday (July 20), confirmed the matter.

"As of now five suspects, aged between 28 and 51 years old have been arrested and remanded to assist our investigations. Following the end of their remand on July 16, they have been handed over to Johor police for their investigation on the same modus operandi.

"Several other actions are being taken to complete our investigations before it will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Chamber for the next decision.

"We urge all victims to come forward as soon as possible and lodge reports," he said.

To date, city police had received 47 reports with losses amounting to over RM2mill.

About 380 prospective haj pilgrims were stranded at KLIA on July 8.

The group, who was gathered at level five of KLIA’s departure hall, was said to have been issued the Furada or private haj visa to perform their pilgrimage without going through Lembaga Tabung Haji.
