Man charged with murder of brother, sister-in-law in Ipoh

IPOH: A 61-year-old man was charged in a Magistrate’s court here with the murder of his brother and sister-in-law.

Ng Chun Ming allegedly committed the murders at a house in Taman Bercham Aman here.

He nodded his head when asked if he understood the charges read to him separately before Magistrate Jesseca Daimis on Thursday (July 14).

No plea was recorded.

According to the charge sheet, Chun Ming had allegedly committed the crimes between 6.45pm, July 6 and 8.20am, July 7.

He had allegedly murdered his brother Ng Chun Hon, 64, and his wife Ooi Tin Lu, 59.

When the second charge was read to him, he told the magistrate he did not know the name of the woman mentioned.

“They just shifted here, I don’t know who she is, whether the wife or girlfriend,” he said.

The accused, who was not represented, said he felt numbness on his legs and fingers after standing for too long and due to his age when the magistrate asked if he was facing any problems or health issues.

Jesseca told the accused that it is okay if he does not know the name of the woman, but as long as he understood the charges.

“Later when you appoint a lawyer, a trial will proceed,” she added.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence if found guilty.

Jesseca then fixed Sept 14 for mention while waiting for the chemistry and forensic reports.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Syahirah Azahar.

On July 8 police arrested the accused in Genting Highlands.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid had said that an axe, believed to be murder weapon, was also found.

A police report was lodged by the male victim’s eldest brother who found the two victims covered with blood in the living room of their house.

A manhunt was carried out to nab the suspect who was last seen driving one of the victim’s cars.
