13 years on, still no keys to new homes

Frustrated: Homeowner Hasnah showing the a copy of the sales and purchase agreement for her unit at Block F, Taman Seri Molek Perdana.

JOHOR BARU: It’s been an arduous wait for about 970 buyers of Taman Seri Molek Perdana apartments, who have yet to get their home keys since making the purchase 13 years ago.

This means that they have not been able to move into their units, located in six apartment blocks, despite paying the monthly instalment for their loan.

“I have been servicing a monthly loan payment of RM270 for my unit in Block F since 2014.

“At the same time, I have to rent another place at RM1,200 as I have not gotten my keys yet,” said civil servant Hasnah Hussin, 53.

“It is taxing for me as I have to take care of my elderly father. My youngest child even had to put off going to university due to our limited funds,” said the mother-of-four.

Hasnah, who represents the unhappy home buyers, said that the housing developer appointed by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) had told the home buyers in January that they would get the keys after some “touch-up works” were done.

“It is so frustrating. Why does it take so long for them to finish the touch-ups?” she asked.

She said they were exasperated as there seemed to be a lack of action by the Federal and state governments to help them move in, despite the “one family, one home” vision.

“We have gone to the government agencies. We do not know who else to turn to,” she said.

Non-governmental organisation Pertubuhan Penyatuan Pembelaan Melayu Malaysia member Idaham Jalani, 45, said the relevant government agencies should look into the quandary as soon as possible. Most of the home buyers of the apartments were civil servants, he said.

“They need to know when they can finally get the keys to their home,” he added.

Meanwhile, Johor housing and local government Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said according to SPNB, the certificate of completion and compliance (CCC) was supposed to be given to Phase Two of Blocks A, B and C on Dec 31 last year but was delayed due to technicalities with a utility company.

“A total of 432 buyers of the blocks are expected to receive their house keys next month, whereas the 215 buyers for Phase Three of Blocks D and E are slated to get their keys by December.

“The CCC for Phase One of Block F was given in 2020,” he said, adding that he had informed the Housing and Local Government Minister and Johor Mentri Besar about the matter as well.
