Two soldiers killed by falling tree in Royal Belum Forest

IPOH: Two soldiers died after a tree fell on them while they were carrying out an operation inside the Royal Belum Forest in Gerik.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the two were from the second battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment camp in Sungai Ara, Penang.

The deceased were identified as Sjn Mohd Kamal Ramli, 41, and Kpl Muhammad Zaki Johari, 31.

"Police received a report on their deaths at 11.50am on Sunday (July 10).

"We believe the incident had occurred at about 1am earlier in the day," he said.

He said the remains of both victims were retrieved with an army helicopter.

"Their bodies have been sent to the Penang Hospital for a post-mortem," he said.
