MELAKA: There is no motion submitted to table a no-confidence vote against Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali in the upcoming state assembly, say Barisan Nasional lawmakers.
Barisan Backbenchers Club deputy chairman Fairul Nizam Roslan said all 20 assemblymen from the coalition are standing firmly behind Sulaiman.
"Speculation on the ouster of the serving chief minister is unfounded and those spreading it have malicious intentions," he said on Saturday (July 9).
Fairul Nizam said the Barisan lawmakers are steadfastly focusing on wooing investment and navigating the high cost of living.
"Hopefully, certain quarters can stop spreading speculation that a motion has been submitted to remove the chief minister to be tabled during the state assembly at the end of this month," he added.
On Friday (July 8), state Umno chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh rubbished speculation on attempts to oust Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali and blamed the Opposition for spreading rumours.
In a statement, Ab Rauf, who is also a state executive council member, denied an article in a news portal that another attempt was being made to overthrow Sulaiman through a no-confidence vote in the upcoming state assembly.
"Such baseless accusations have emerged previously and are the work of envious Opposition (lawmakers) in the state. There is a move to destabilise the political equilibrium and grassroots support for the ruling state government," he said.
